Cooke City is the epicenter of Montana backcountry skiing & riding. Hidden at the end of the road near Yellowstone, this old mining town proudly boasts historically high snowfall for the region. Cooke City is difficult to access, but well worth the visit for good conditions throughout winter.

Private Day
Private days are based out of Cooke City, MT. Depending on goals, skill level, and conditions, our experienced staff provides local knowledge and guidance in the "Mecca of Backcountry Skiing".
Our two to four-day clinics will build upon the skills and experiences that you have previously developed while backcountry skiing and riding. Our guides will teach you how to integrate mountaineering fundamentals and techniques with uphill and downhill travel. Technical skills in this course will cover ice axe use, steep snow climbing, crampon use and care, building snow anchors, and rope management on snow. The students of each course will cover snow pack and terrain assessment for planning route travel, and together will make informed decisions about our alpine objectives. Ski Mountaineering courses can be designed to meet student interest and different ability levels. These courses provide some of the best wilderness experiences the Beartooths can offer.
Want to learn a great new activity that will get you out enjoying the mountains? On this outing our guides will provide instruction on the use of touring equipment and how to efficiently move in the winter backcountry. You will learn how to evaluate avalanche terrain and snowpack stability, which will improve route finding skills for your own touring adventures. The Beartooths hold great alpine scenery and winter solace that will make you love this sport simply for the wilderness experience it offers.
All skiing abilities are welcome!
*All participants must provide their own touring gear (boots, skis, skins). BMG can provide beacons, shovels and probes. Course level is customized per client experience.
