Course Description

Explore one of the most scenic and remote backpacking routes in Montana on this guided point-to-point trek through the Stillwater River Valley. Designed for hikers with solid fitness and backcountry experience, this 5-day trip takes you deep into the Beartooth Wilderness, where you’ll travel from dense forests to high alpine basins surrounded by granite peaks. This adventure begins at the Stillwater River Trailhead and ends at East Rosebud Lake, following a route known for its stunning lakes, wildflower-filled meadows, and sweeping mountain views. With expert guides leading the way, you’ll cross multiple mountain passes, camp beside crystal-clear alpine lakes, and gain confidence in navigating the backcountry. Stats: 35 miles, 5240' elevation gain, 6500 ' elevation loss Day 0: 4 pm Mandatory Gear Check in Red Lodge ​Day 1: West Fork Stillwater THD (at 6600ft) to Breakneck Meadows. 8 miles with 1000 ft of elevation gain. We will hike along the West fork of the Stillwater river a drainage of the Beartooth mountains. Camp will be at Breakneck Meadows. ​Day 2: Breakneck Meadows to Diaphanous Lake. 7 miles with 3000 ft of elevation gain. We will hike to our highest point at 9600 ft and the environment will change from a more high forestry one to a more alpine one. ​Day 3: Diaphanous Lake to Lake Jordan. 5 miles with 1000 ft of elevation gain and 1400 ft of elevation loss. Passing Jordan Mountain and Wounded Man Lake on our way, this day allows for some rest after the first two bigger days. ​Day 4: Lake Jordan to Storm Creek. 7 miles and 2500 ft of elevation loss. We descend back into the impressive valley along the Stillwater river. The environment will become more forestry again. Day 5: Storm Creek to Stillwater THD. Our last day is about 5 miles long and allows for the shuttling of cars and a meal in Red Lodge, Nye or Roscoe! Our trips focus on the simplicity of nature, with your backpack and trip mates. Join one of our experienced female guides for a magical wilderness experience. An 80-minute personal shuttle drive is required. In the past participants have shared car rides with each other and guides. Local shuttle services are available. This trip includes a guide, breakfasts, dinners and cooking equipment. Cancellation Policy

The 2.9% credit card processing fee is not refundable. In the event of a cancellation 31 days or more before your upcoming trip, Beartooth Mountain Guides refunds your entire deposit, apart from processing fees. 30-14 days in advance of your upcoming trip, Beartooth Mountain Guides refunds 50% of trip cost. Within 14 days, no refunds are accepted. Remaining costs are due one month prior to trip start date. Travel insurance, such as Travel Guard or World Nomads, is highly recommended to protect the cost of your trip in the event of a last minute cancellation.
