Course Details

This intro level course is the best way to try out rock climbing for the first time. It will provide experience with movement and comfort with basic rope handling techniques, allowing you to become one step closer to an independent climber. It is also a great way to experience the Montana Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem firsthand!

Skills Covered:

  • Preparation for a day of climbing

  • Packing the right equipment

  • Basic knots & hitches

  • Climbing movement

  • Climbing calls & communication

  • Top rope belaying

  • Rappelling

This course is typically 1 day long and starts with a briefing at our office and gear depot in Red Lodge. Here, we discuss logistics for a day of climbing and what to look for in a crag. From the office, we caravan 15 minutes down the road to a roadside cliff, where we can practice basic skills and start climbing. The main goal of this course is to provide participants with plenty of climbing in a wide spectrum of difficulties, along with all of the skills required to climb with another experienced climber.
